WE'RE BACK!!!! Yes after a week off resting our body and soul after a couple of weeks at the footy we're back into it this weekend hosting the crows. It's always a great day against Keith, both on the footy and netball fronts. Two weeks ago now we left sunny Bordertown and was greeted with a cold, wet and miserable day down at Penola. There's been a bit happening in the past few weeks, of note Mitchy Darliiiiiits thought he needed to engrave a smiley face on his elbow with a sheet of roofing iron and ended up with umpteen stitches.
Tren's little fellas with an early start headed down to take on Penola but only managed to finish second. They showed some promise throughout the game and will be looking improve through the the year. Best players were Brandon Couzner (Tolmer Takeaway), Lachlan Makin (Jolpac), James Gurney Wellington (The optimum cut), Lachie Murch (Tatiara Industrial Repairs), Tyson Leigh (Limecoast Freight), Taylor Finch (Bordertown Fruit Market).
Onto the senior colts now, and I hear on the grapevine that the coach has lodged his name change with the government and that his players are now calling him Johnnie. During the bye there were players playing at Padthaway with a couple of them hitting the scoreboard and nearly scoring half of their teams score. Against Penola two weeks back a team that has some quality players to still be injected into the side were very impressive, best players were Beau Shinnick (N & P Murch Award), Matty Leigh (Pooles Menswear), Nick Dahlitz (Murch Plumbing and Roofing), Ben Jarrett (Tatiara Driver training), Cam the Ram Makin (Wickham Flower), Bradley Lodewyk (Ray White).
The magoos, were brought back to earth, but with some more players becoming available every week the quality is filtering down into the b grade. This weeks game will be a good test to see where both teams sit in the pecking order for this season. Best were Brent Lodewyk (USE Liquid waste & Creaser Bobcat and haulage), Jaz Creaser (Redden kitchens, Norton Bulk & Ladies meal voucher), Dan Feder (Bordertown Pharmacy & Growmaster), Travis Nitschke (The Optimum cut), Matt Tink (Woolshed Inn), David Wurst (Sport N Moore).
Well fair to say that after such a bruising game a fortnight ago our boys needed a little rest. It was one of the greatest games of country footy you would ever want to watch. It was thrilling watching all game but the second and the first part of the third quarter when it was goal for goal were awesome. If we get some more of that there will be some large crowds coming along to watch our boys play. Best were Timmy Harkness (Jolpac & Wise Ford), Maddog Hayes (Densley Earthmoving & Wickham Flower), Rory Tink (AWE Richards), Angus Diment (Woolshed Inn), Nick Hewett (Cut Loose hair and Body lounge), Clint Diment (Bordertown Pharmacy).
Also today marks the opening of the netball courts, where after the footy has completed. We will all head over to the netball where beers, a bbq and yiros's will be available. There will be an official cutting of the ribbon by some very attractive Adelaide Thunderbirds Erin Bell and Nat Von Bertough, (ladies if your looking for me I wear the number 32 in the A grade footy). The A grade match will follow then normal night time activities will resume in the clubrooms once the A grade netball has finished.
Today we host the crows from down the road, today's major game day sponsor is Densley Earthmoving, and I heard a rumour that Jock was gonna buy a beer for everyone that thanked him for his support of the club.
